Kerala Bike Trip Packages
Home / Kerala Bike Trip PackagesKerala surprises riders who come expecting a consolation prize after the high-altitude drama of a Ladakh or Himalayan tour. What they find instead is something completely different and, for many, just as compelling: a state with an extraordinarily diverse landscape, exceptional roads through the Western Ghats, a coastline that rewards slow riding, and a culture that engages you at every stop.
At Motorbike Tour India, our Kerala bike trip packages are designed around the reality of what this state offers - which is considerably more than the tourist brochure summary of backwaters and tea estates. Both of those things are exceptional and should be part of any Kerala bike trip. But so are the riding roads through Munnar, the rubber plantation routes of Kottayam, the fishing village stops along the coast, and the forest roads of Wayanad.
The Roads: What Makes Kerala Special
Kerala's best riding roads are in the Western Ghats. The roads from Kochi up to Munnar through the ghats are a genuinely excellent motorcycling experience - tight, well-surfaced twisties with elevation changes that keep the riding engaging and views that justify the occasional stop. The road through the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary section of this route is particularly memorable.
Wayanad, in the northern part of the state, offers another dimension: forest roads through protected areas, rising to about 2,100 metres, with a cool climate even in summer that makes the riding comfortable in a way that the lowland routes aren't in March through June. The section between Kalpetta and Ooty via Gudalur is a mountain road highlight that's underappreciated outside the riding community.
The coastal roads - NH66 and the smaller roads running closer to the sea - offer a different kind of riding pleasure: flat, fast in stretches, with the Arabian Sea intermittently visible and a rotation of fishing villages, backwater crossings, and small town stops that give Kerala's social texture without ever requiring you to leave the bike for long.
Standard Kerala Bike Trip Itineraries
A comprehensive Kerala bike trip package typically runs 7 to 10 days and covers the major transitions: from the high ranges of Munnar or Wayanad down to the backwaters of Alleppey or Kumarakom, with the coast as a connecting thread.
A popular structure at Motorbike Tour India runs Kochi to Munnar (via the ghat road), Munnar to Thekkady (through Periyar Wildlife Reserve), Thekkady to Alleppey (a long but rewarding day through Kottayam's rubber country), a backwater stop, then north along the coast toward Thrissur and Kozhikode before a final day through Wayanad. This circuit covers essentially the full range of Kerala's geographic variation.
Shorter packages - 4 to 5 days in the high ranges alone, or a focused coastal ride - are also available for riders with limited time.
Best Time to Ride Kerala
The optimal window for a Kerala bike trip package is October through February - after the monsoon has cleared and before the pre-monsoon heat builds. During this period, the roads are dry, the landscape is at its most intensely green (the post-monsoon wash leaves everything vivid), the temperatures in the hills are pleasantly cool, and the coast is at its most hospitable.
The monsoon (June through September) is not impossible for riding, but the heavy rain and sometimes poor visibility on ghat roads makes it more demanding and less comfortable. Some experienced riders specifically prefer riding Kerala in the early monsoon - the empty roads and dramatic landscape have genuine appeal - but it requires commitment to wet-weather riding and acceptance of reduced visibility.
March through May brings heat to the lowlands but the hill stations remain comfortable. It's a viable riding season with some planning.
Culture and Cuisine as Part of the Package
A Kerala bike trip is not complete without engagement with the food. Kerala cuisine is one of the great regional cuisines of India - the karimeen (pearl spot fish) preparations in Alleppey, the beef fry served alongside appam in Christian households near Kottayam, the coastal seafood curry that varies by village, the extraordinary filter coffee that sustains you through long riding days.
The cultural calendar - Kathakali performances, the Thrissur Pooram festival with its elephant processions (April/May), the Onam harvest festival in August/September - adds depth to a Kerala bike trip that makes it more than a scenic route.
At Motorbike Tour India, our Kerala packages are planned to include experiences that give texture to the riding, not just kilometres between attractions.
