Best Motorcycle Rides

Home / Best Motorcycle Rides

At Motorbike Tour India, we have ridden more roads in this country than we can count with any precision. Long stretches of smooth highway at dawn, technical mountain hairpins with a thousand-foot drop on one side, coastal roads where the wind carries the smell of the sea, jungle tracks so narrow the trees brush your shoulders - we have done all of it, repeatedly, on every type of machine from a 125cc commuter to a purpose-built adventure tourer. And after all of that, we still believe India offers some of the best motorcycle rides on earth. Here are the ones that genuinely stand apart.

Manali to Leh - Still the Greatest

We could list this at number one every single time and never feel the need to justify it. The Manali-Leh Highway is a complete riding experience in the truest sense of the word. It is physically demanding, technically interesting in sections, visually extraordinary from start to finish, and emotionally charged in a way that takes most first-time riders by genuine surprise. The scale of the landscape - the vast open valleys, the sheer vertical faces of the mountains, the absence of human presence for hours at a stretch - produces a feeling of smallness and freedom simultaneously that is uniquely powerful on a motorcycle.

Zanskar Valley - The Hidden Jewel

Most riders who complete the Manali-Leh route are not aware that the Zanskar Valley, accessible from Kargil via a side road, offers a riding experience that surpasses even the main highway in terms of remoteness and raw beauty. The road to Padum through the Suru Valley, with the Nun and Kun peaks dominating the horizon, is one of the most dramatic stretches of motorcyclable road in the world. Motorbike Tour India runs a dedicated Zanskar extension for riders who want to go beyond the standard Ladakh itinerary.

Meghalaya's Living Root Bridge Roads

The roads into the Khasi and Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya are relatively short in distance but exceptional in character. Tight bends through dense subtropical forest, sudden viewpoints over the Bangladesh plains far below, and roads that drop thousands of feet in a very short horizontal distance make this an exciting technical riding experience. The cultural richness of the Khasi communities and the extraordinary natural engineering of the living root bridges make every stop worthwhile.

Char Dham Yatra Circuit - Uttarakhand

The Char Dham circuit covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath (accessible approach), and Badrinath is a motorcycle pilgrimage and a landscape ride of the highest order. The roads through Uttarakhand's mid-Himalayas are beautiful and varied, the religious significance of the destinations adds a cultural dimension that enriches the riding experience, and the sheer variety of terrain - river valleys, forested climbs, open alpine meadows - keeps every hour of riding interesting.

Coorg to Ooty Through the Nilgiris

South India often gets overlooked in conversations about great motorcycle rides, but the route from Coorg across the Nilgiri plateau to Ooty and down the famous 36-hairpin descent to Mettupalayam is a riding experience that would stand proudly alongside any Himalayan route. The road surface is generally excellent, the gradient is challenging, the coffee and tea plantation scenery is lush and beautiful, and the final descent from Ooty is as satisfying a piece of motorcycle road as you will find anywhere in the country.

Motorbike Tour India offers guided and self-guided packages across all of these routes. Whatever your experience level, whatever time you have available, we can put you on a road worth riding.
